AUGUST 2011
A sad day and a day of celebration!
On Friday the 19th August we said goodbye to the founder of our company. Jim Scott died peacefully at home on the 6th August at the age of 85. As per his wishes he was carried on his final journey on the back of a company vehicle driven by his two grandsons who both work in the business.
Family, friends and colleagues from the industry were impressed by the mode of transport and felt it a very fitting way for him to go. Tributes to his long career in the industry and his impact on it were paid at the service along with his story from an upbringing in Burma, service in RAF Bomber Command and his role in the introduction of Zebra Crossings throughout the UK in the 50’s.
JUNE 2011
Wilson & Scott move into premises next door!
The Company has taken over the building next to its old Colnbrook HQ after almost 19 years at the old site. The offices and workshops have been refurbished to a high standard and incorporate energy saving features to further enhance the Company’s Green credentials. With triple glazing, high performance wall and roof insulation, automatic lighting controls and an energy efficient heating/cooling system WS expect to see considerable savings in running costs.
Part of the building includes residential accommodation for staff from other parts of the UK working in London and the South East. New amenity areas for all staff include new kitchens and mess rooms as well as shower facilities.
Wilson & Scott win major new contract!
The Company has been awarded the Surrey County Council contract for Road Marking and Road Studs which runs for 6 years initially with two 2 year extensions possible. The contract will be worth in the region of £12million over its lifetime and is the largest single contract in the Company’s history. In order to fulfil the requirements of the contract WS have ordered 4 new trucks which will be sign written with the names and contact details of the Company and Surrey County Council Highways Department. The new trucks will all be of the latest low polluting standards so as to help the client reduce its carbon footprint.
The judges were unanimous in their award of this prestigious accolade to Wilson & Scott. They commented on the work done by the company to raise standards across the business by investment in staff training even in tough times.
The Company had demonstrated that success can derive from a determined process to enable all employees to reach their highest potential and that clients will recognise and reward quality service. The Company’s emphasis on quality of provision and a move away from lowest price had been well rewarded by recent long-term contract wins.
